Safety Stop Law

Colorado's Safety Stop Law

(effective April 13, 2022)

It is now LEGAL for all bicycles, e-bikes and electric-assisted scooters:

To treat stop signs like yield signs, and to proceed through a red light after slowing to check traffic;
Cyclists must still stop if there is incoming traffic;
Law applies to cyclists 15 years or older

Remember not all motorists are aware of this law.

Be cautious when exercising the "Safety Stop" law.
